Why Breathing May Be the Missing Piece in Your Family’s Health
Take a moment and think about how often you consider breathing.
For most of us, the answer is: almost never.
But what if the way your child breathes is quietly shaping their posture, sleep quality, jaw development, and even nervous system regulation?
At Wisconsin Myofunctional Therapy, we work with families every day who are surprised to learn that simple patterns, like mouth breathing or low tongue posture, can influence long-term health.
That’s why I’m excited to collaborate with Dr. Nadine Illichmann of Bump and Beyond Family Wellness for a special educational workshop:
“It’s All Connected: Supporting Family Health Through Posture, Breathing, and the Nervous System”
Saturday, February 28th at 10:00 AM
The Power of Nasal Breathing and Tongue Posture
Myofunctional therapy focuses on retraining the muscles of the mouth and face to support optimal breathing, chewing, swallowing, and resting tongue posture. When breathing primarily occurs through the mouth instead of the nose, it can lead to:
Poor sleep quality
Snoring in children
Forward head posture
Narrow jaw development
Increased stress on the nervous system
Breathing through the nose helps regulate oxygen levels, supports healthy facial growth, and promotes calmer nervous system function.
But breathing doesn’t operate in isolation.

Posture, the Spine, and the Nervous System
If a child’s tongue rests low in the mouth or their airway is compromised, the body adapts. Often, this adaptation shows up as forward head posture or rounded shoulders.
Over time, those postural shifts affect their spinal alignment. That’s where chiropractic care becomes an important partner.
Dr. Nadine’s work focuses on optimizing nervous system communication through gentle, family-centered chiropractic care. When the spine is aligned and breathing patterns are functional, the body has a much stronger foundation for regulation and growth.
Together, these approaches create a more complete picture of wellness.
What You’ll Discover at This Workshop
During this event, we’ll explore topics like:
How oral muscle function influences breathing and posture
Why airway development matters for long-term health
The connection between breathing and nervous system regulation
How chiropractic and myofunctional therapy work together
Signs parents can look for early
This workshop is designed for parents who want clarity instead of confusion. For families who sense something is connected, but aren’t sure how.
When we improve breathing mechanics and support spinal alignment, we create ripple effects throughout the body.
And that’s the heart of this workshop.
